Chess knight puzzle game — how many squares can you visit?

If you know how a knight moves in chess — in an L-shape — you already know how to play Knight Squares. The challenge is covering as many squares as possible on a 5x5 board without running out of legal moves. It sounds easy until you realize you keep painting yourself into a corner.

How to Play

You start on a 5x5 grid. Tap any valid square to move your knight (the same L-shaped move from chess — two squares in one direction, then one square perpendicular). Each square you land on gives you points. Some squares are invalid or blocked. When you have no legal moves left, the game is over.

The goal is simple: visit as many squares as possible and get the highest score.

Why It Is Addictive

The board is small enough that each game takes about a minute, so you always think “one more round.” But the randomized square values and blocked tiles mean every game plays differently. You start recognizing patterns, planning moves ahead, and getting frustrated when you realize you could have scored 20 more points if you had just gone left instead of right.

For Chess Fans and Non-Chess Fans Alike

You do not need to know anything about chess except how a knight moves. There is no opponent, no time pressure, and no complex rules. If you enjoy logic puzzles, number games, or just need something to do for 60 seconds on the bus, Knight Squares fits perfectly.
